Tom Hoch

Hoch’s transformation into rock star dj status started in the early 70’s. As a roadie for the psychedelic funk polka band “Earl and the Wildcats” Hoch was exposed to styles of music unbeknownst to many. After years of wild after parties with drunken bagpipers and their groupies he decided to make a change in musical stylings.

Raised in beautiful Saudi Aurora, CO Hoch has been a part of the Denver underground scene since it’s humble beginnings. Attending many local concerts and listening to new wave, industrial, Seattle style rock, hip hop, old school funk, jazz and early European experimental music the crossover to dj’ing was inevitable.

Starting in late 1995 Hoch started mixing Orlando style breakbeats and minimal techno. The loft on 31st and Larimer was the training ground for Hoch, hosting many parties in the afterhours arena. Spinning with many of the countries top dj’s and producers he evolved into playing diverse styles of house, downtempo, hip hop and breaks.

In the past few years Tom Hoch has decided to focus on more than just himself. Looking around Denver’s electronic music scene he noticed that his close friends in Colorado that were writing music, or spinning with other collectives weren’t getting much exposure outside the state. The quality and experience were all there, there was just no marketing or a&r support for these artists. Hoch decided to pool all of the collective resources he had ties with and created milehighhouse productions.

Milehighhouse is a collective of producers, dj’s, graphic artists, web designers and other talents that are related to the electronic music world. He created a website, milehighhouse.com that is basically a menu of what this strong collective has to offer. Making a strong presence in Miami, at the winter music conference in 2000, the collective was launched. Since that time the collective has grown from 6 groups of producers to 11 with 15 different Dj’s to support them. Their music is released on major indie labels including, Guidance Recordings, Imperial Dub, Grayhound, Toko, Jah Love, Tequila Sound, Totem Records, ING Records, Lo-Rise Recordings, Leaf Recordings, Straylight Recordings, Ruff Recordings, Terraform records and others.

Milehighhouse is responsible for many successful club nights and special events in Denver. In a little over three years Milehighhouse has risen to a leadership role in Colorado’s electronic music world. Milehighhouse Recordings was launched in October 2002 with it’s first e.p. release from Ilk. A full-length album, “Out of Thin Air - Vol. 1″ was released in August of 2003.

Working as chief a&r man and marketing manager Tom Hoch and his team are rapidly building alliances across the country and the world. In the past three years Hoch has created one of the most original and unique underground parties in the region, the milehigh tea parties. These events have been used to showcase some of the worlds up and coming DJ and producer talents to Denver’s stage. These events have been widely recognized as one of Denver’s nightlife gems. Hoch is also responsible for promotions and bookings for most of the mhhp roster, and doing the main A&R tasks for milehighhouse recordings.

In late 2003 Tom Hoch was brought into the fold of the new digital download network www.beatport.com as one of the original 6 employees, and helped to build that network to the most relevant source of electronic music labels and partners in the world.

Currently Tom is working with YogaDownload.com to assist in the content management and business development of this company.
